FSGC, Topeka businesses celebrate Mental Health Month

Performance Tire & Wheel, Cashmere Popcorn, Prairie Glass Studio and Scotch Fabric Care are working with FSGC this year to help raise needed funds and create awareness of children’s mental health.

“We’re excited to have great community partners who are so eager to help kids living with anxiety, depression, ADHD and other mental health issues,” said Pam Evans, FSGC Director of Marketing & Development. “I hope that individuals across Topeka will take this opportunity to visit our Mental Health Month partners and help us create stronger families.”

Mental Health Month activities include:

  • For the third consecutive year, Performance Tire & Wheel will donate $10 for every complete set of tires sold at either of their two locations: 1735 N. Kansas Ave. and 2000 S.W. Topeka Blvd.
  • On Friday, May 3, Cashmere Popcorn (728 S. Kansas Ave.) will donate all sales of $1 bags of popcorn to FSGC. They will also take donations on behalf of FSGC all month long.
  • Prairie Glass Studio (110 S.E. 8th) and all five Scotch Fabric Care Topeka locations will distribute information to help FSGC create awareness about what children’s mental health issues look like as well as the broad range of services FSGC offers.

Mental Health Month, held each May, highlights the need for children’s mental health care in northeast Kansas and across the country. Each year, one in five youth age 18 and under experiences a mental health issue that severely disrupts their life. Fifty percent of people who live with mental illness experience their first symptoms by age 14. Early intervention is crucial if the child or teen is to recover as fully as possible.

Family Service & Guidance Center is a non-profit community mental health center that serves nearly 11,500 children, adolescents and their families living with anxiety, depression, ADHD and other mental health issues. FSGC has been changing children’s lives for the better since 1904.
