Many day-to-day activities and events stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, kids' mental health issues weren't among them. As our community begins to open up once again, kids and families need our help.
Keeping mentally healthy is essential in times of crisis and I wanted to let the community know that Family Service & Guidance Center continues to serve children and families, especially in this time of uncertainty. This includes accepting new clients.
The FSGC team has shown tremendous dedication, creativity and spirit since the beginning of the pandemic. The situation changed from day-to-day and even hour-to-hour. Staff came together to modify how we could provide services remotely. All of these changes have been made so that thousands of northeast Kansas children, teens and families who depend on us can continue to get the help they need.
Some of our large group programs, like the therapeutic preschool and Youth Development Program, had to be suspended for over a month. We were able to provide some group services via televideo, and fortunately, many of our summer group programs are now up and running with appropriate health and safety precautions being taken. Nevertheless, the suspension resulted in a significant loss of revenue for our organization.
We also anticipate that as the pandemic wanes, the need for pediatric mental health care will grow. We’re already treating children who were isolated in unhealthy and even abusive home situations. We need to be ready to meet this looming community need.
We need each other more than ever before. If you have the resources, please consider making a gift to Family Service & Guidance Center. Your generosity will allow kids to continue to get the help they need in this very challenging time, and it will ensure that FSGC can provide needed services after this unprecedented pandemic is over.
We're getting through this together. Thank you for your kindness and caring for our children.
